We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague Günter Rudolph, who passed away on 26 May 2026. Günter was a familiar face at EvoStar for many years, and one of the pioneers of the rigorous, mathematical analysis of evolutionary algorithms and a pillar of the Evolution Strategies community.
His work on the convergence of evolutionary algorithms gave the field the tools to understand when and why these methods work. For two decades he led the Computational Intelligence research group at TU Dortmund, and his contributions were recognized internationally, most recently with the IEEE Evolutionary Computation Pioneer Award.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, his friends, and all who knew him. Günter’s legacy will endure in the field he helped to shape and in the many researchers he inspired; the person will endure in us.
